Shine is an artwork inspired by sunbeams glowing into the rainforest chasms of the nearby Blue Mountains and the healing power of light. Sunbeams are a natural phenomenon and a poetic metaphor for peace, hope and healing. Shine is the elegant resolution of engineering, art and architecture to arrive at a form that is both beautiful in form as well as efficient in materials. Located in the Internal Courtyard of Nepean Hospital it transforms the otherwise featureless void into a constantly shifting pattern of colour/ shadow and form. As an artwork that describes light, Shine exudes gentleness and warmth.

This work is truly original and a new use of form and materials that is previously unexplored. This meant close consultation between the artist’s team, builders and the engineers to deliver a complex beautiful work that looks deceptively simple.
